This year Milestones is excited to offer optional lunch opportunities both days of the conference. Whether you choose to prepay for a box lunch or choose to buy your lunch at the I-X Center’s concession stands, we encourage you to participate! Seating will be on a first come first served basis.

Family Member Networking Lunch: Dreams, Goals and Aspirations
This session will be presented by Anthony Ianni, an individual with ASD, who will share his story of overcoming challenges and obstacles of having ASD. Anthony will share his knowledge of how his support system was able to help him get to where he is in life today and also share how sports, especially playing basketball for Tom Izzo at Michigan State, helped him cope with possible outbursts and struggles of being on the spectrum. He will also share about his transition from elementary school through college and talk about the teachers and professionals who helped along the way.
Individuals with ASD Lunch: A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words
This session will provide participants the opportunity to be introduced to art therapy and the benefits of using it for individuals with ASD. First, the presenters will discuss the current practices of art therapy technique. Then, those in attendance will have the opportunity to partake in an art therapy intervention. Once completed, participants will have the option to share their artwork and the process of its creation. This lunch session will be led by Doug and Stacy Blecher, founders of Autism Personal Coach.
Professional Lunch: Top Ten Autism Research Studies of 2016-2017
Thomas W. Frazier, PhD, Chief Science Officer at Autism Speaks will review the most impactful and influential research studies on autism from the last year. Investigations of genetic variation, neuroimaging studies of brain structure, and new treatment approaches will be reviewed and potential next steps in the autism research landscape will be offered.

Family Member Networking Lunch: Advocacy – The Good Life Ambassador Program at CCBDD
The Good Life Ambassadors hired by the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities are public speakers and they provide presentations and staff trainings. They have spoken to a variety of people in the community, individually and in group settings, about their achievements, hopes, dreams and challenges. Their presentations are designed to educate their community, both inside and outside of the DD system, about people with disabilities and to provide strategies and tips about inclusion, employment and the importance of advocacy. Attendees will hear from Milestones Teen Trailblazer award winner Grace Blatt, Christian Borrero, and William Gallup.
Individuals with ASD Lunch: Creative Relaxation: A Yoga Class to Support Self-Regulation, Body Awareness, Balance, Strength, and Calm
This session, led by Jennifer Griest Hayes of Afterlight Fitness & Educational Consulting, will provide a yoga class specially designed for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. A brief explanation of yoga and its benefits for self-regulation, motor skill development, and overall well-being will be given, along with easy to implement strategies to control physical and emotional states. Breathing techniques, physical poses, an opportunity to interact with others, and a guided relaxation activity will make up the majority of the class. Visual supports will play a key role in guiding the class format. Resources/handouts will be available for all in attendance. Class participants will receive an activity card with techniques learned in class.
