A STABLE Account is a savings and investment account available to eligible individuals with disabilities. STABLE Accounts, for the first time, allow individuals with disabilities to save and invest money without losing eligibility for means-tested public benefits programs, such as Medicaid or SSI. STABLE Accounts eliminate the need for a monthly "spend-down" as participants can now save above their resource limits and still keep their means-tested benefits.

Earnings in a STABLE Account are not subject to federal income tax, as long as the funds are spent on “Qualified Disability Expenses”. There is a loadable debit card that participants can use as well. STABLE Accounts work in conjunction with any existing financial account an individual may already have.
