Starting the New School Year
5 steps to help with the transition for students with ASD
1.) Do a "Trial Run" BEFORE the start of the year -Meet the teachers. -Do a "dry run" of the school schedule.
2.) Be open about how you support your child -Let the teachers know how you help your child with homework, organization, etc. -Be honest about independent levels.
3.) Be an advocate for your child -Don't overwhelm the school or make demands. -Advocacy is about relationships - collaboration is key.
4.) Anticipate "bumps in the road" -Children often struggle when they begin something new.
5.) Have a vision about the future, but be flexible about the vision changing -Plan ahead, but be ready for changes in the plan down the road - there will be changes.
Join the Milestones RUN FOR AUTISM and RUN FOR SCHOLARSHIPS-- Satellite 5K!
No fundraising required!!
This run is meant to be FUN! In August, runners and walkers alike will
participate by hitting their neighborhood sidewalks, local running
trails, or even the treadmill for a 5K. The goal of this 5K is to help
the Organization for Autism Research (OAR) fund ten scholarships for
individuals with an autism diagnosis pursuing post-secondary,
undergraduate education.
Your
tax-deductible $30 entry fee gets you a special, customizable RUN FOR
AUTISM race bib to wear during your 5K and a finisher’s coin to
commemorate your efforts. All proceeds will go towards OAR's autism
scholarship program.
